man, at first I thought it was another cheesy sprite animation but dude. I'm very impressed, and very moved. Some very tender scenes there, bravo ^^

Flash Done Right

Very nice animation, imo everything was done right and wouldn't change a thing.

One question though if I may;
The computer voice used in the song (not the speaking one, that sounded like Microsoft Sam), what program was used for that? I've seen the same type of voice used in other songs where they can change the pitch of the voice to match the song.
Anyone know?

Hey Rockmonix.

You're right about Microsoft Sam, I used windows narrator and notepad to get that. The singing was done the exact same way, except however i ran the output through a vocoder. A vocoder is an effect that was popularised by the robot voices of the 70s and works by taking the output of one sound source (like a synth or guitar) and modulating it with another (usually a vocal). However apart from the typical robot voice, there are other creative ways of using it.

I played a synth melody and modulated it using microsoft sam. The result basically makes a monotonal or spoken word phrase sound as if it is singing.

Hey, claymation is hard and I give you huge props for the animation. But I gotta say the sound was absolutely dreadful and really took away from the video.
But if you could clean up the audio and not have it sound like the VA swollowed his mic, it'd be very good and more worthy of front page

I am very sorry about the sound, i had to keep converting from mac to pc and myvoice sounds crap, so i tryed to illstrated the movie using music from SAW trilogy. I also had alot of trouble converting the sound for flash.

Funny, but....

yea it was ok, but the sound and dialogue was downright awful and basically killed most of the humour.
But it was still ok, but for the future, when you get a voice actor, make sure you get one that can make a clean recording, that teacher guy sounded like one of those drive-through voices at Mcdonald's

This by far one of the BEST Ren and Stimpy flashes I have ever seen. I mean, the show was running for so long I thought there was nothing left to make fun of but was again the peo..... huh?... what was that?... this isn't Ren and Stimpy?..... pfft yeah right.

A Flasher showing some skill

I usually don't write reviews unless I feel there's something that I just have to say. This is very good submission....but it's also bad in ways as well.
I read some of the reviews thus far and there's too many reviews saying this is unoriginal....well DUH! How many flashes out there are truely original? No matter which flash you review, there's ALWAYS SOMETHING out there that's similar.
I like this submission because;
A) This is the artists 2nd submission and it's a better quality then the majority of others out there, so we can expect some good things in the future.
B) Yes it's a big cliche on major anime themes, but if it works it works, no sense changing the formula.
C) People say the "story" doesn't make sense.... but it's a 3 1/2 minute song, what kind of story are you expecting. Pieces like this are meant for you to use your imagination as to what the story could have been. You DO have a mind, don't be afraid to use it once in awhile :)

But the submission did have some drawbacks. The mouths were all tween'd to match the music (there were a couple scenes where tweening wasn't used) tweening for voice synching is a major NO-NO. Also shape tweening was used on the hair in 90% of the scenes and made the hair bounce around very unnaturally which was very distracting. (I know flash has it's limitations but try not to take too many shortcuts at the sacrifice of quality)

All in all a very good submission and as I stated earlier this is only #2 for this artist, I think we'll be seeing some more front page work from this person. Good job ^^

An all too common downfall

This happens alot and it pains me to see it. Great animators voicing their own cartoons, you've got great talent as an animator but the horrible voicing completly overshadows everything else. Get some friends to lend their tongues or check out the Voice Actors forum.
